Big in Japan - GECCO Conference 2018

At this year's Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO) in Kyoto, our research group was again represented with a large delegation of experienced and young researchers. The GECCO Conference is one of the most important and prestigious conferences for the latest high-quality results in genetic and evolutionary computation since 1999.

We are very proud, that this year four of our contributions were accepted in one of the main tracks!

Besides the EvoSoft workshop hosted by Stefan Wagner and Michael Affenzeller several of our researchers held workshops, paper and poster presentations:

·         Gabriel Kronberger presented „Predicting Friction System Performance with Symbolic Regression and Genetic Programming with Factor Variables“

·         Andreas Beham presented "Algorithm Selection on Generalized Quadratic Assignment Problem Landscapes"

·         Michael Affenzeller held an invited talk about "Data-Based Modeling and Optimization in Industrial Processes" in the  "Evolutionary Computation in Practive (ECip)" track organized by Thomas Bartz-Beielstein

·         Johannes Karder presented the paper "Asynchronous Surrogate-assisted Optimization Networks"

·         Sebastian Raggl presented "Discrete Real-world Problems in a Black-box Optimization Benchmark"

·         Bogdan Burlacu presented a part of his PhD thesis, finished with distinction in 2017, under the title "Schema-based Diversification in Genetic Programming"

·         Bernhard Werth presented the paper entiteled "Quasi-Bistability of Walk-Based Landscape Measures in Stochastic Fitness Landscape"

·         Lukas Kammerer discussed his poster "Confidence-Based Ensemble Modeling in Medical Data Mining"

Also some of our former research group members and graduates like Roland Braune (University of Vienna), Stefan Forsterlechner (University of Dublin) or Ciprian Zavoianu (Johannes Kepler University Linz) are successfully represented at the GECCO Conference.

Around 700 researchers participated at the conference in Kyoto - they made this year's conference the second largest GECCO ever.
